The 17-year-old daughter of Alaska governor Sarah Palin is pregnant. If not for the fact that Senator John McCain has chosen Palin to be his running mate, would we care? I doubt it.
First of all of course we wouldn't care if she was not nominated - dah! but she is nominated so we must care about the character & background of the candidate and their family life., etc. of anyone nominated. If it were a Barak with a 17 year old daughter pregnant it would be a big deal, and there would be lots of criticism. I'm neither Dem or Rep. but I know there is a double standard going on here!
Frankly I would not be surprised to find out that the so-called big 4-month old son of Palin is really her daughters baby too! Personally the whole family looks like they are not really that close and Palin sucks as a mom from what I can see she doesn't even hold that special needs baby like she is connected to him. ! and why the cover up or lack of releasing the grandbaby on the way when she was introducing her family - they would have preferred if the public did not know - The country is in big trouble if we vote Rep. this year... not b/c of a 17 year old being pregnant though... Did you see the Rep. convention - like a Nazi ideology !
Ron, I was in your seeded discussion "Palin's daughter is pregnant, get over it" I in no way breached the code of Vine' code of conduct. For some reason, maybe it was a mistake or you did not agree with me, but you deleted all of my comments. What's up with that?

What a thoroughly absurd premise for your article. We are obsessed with Ms. Palin's pregnancy only because her mother is running for VP, instead, we should only be concerned with issues. Would we care about Sarah Palin's position on issues if she weren't running for VP? What are the issues? They are what the Parties, Pundits and Politicians tell us they think is important. It so happens that the Party, Pundits and Politicians from the right tell us that the most important issue is family values. Accordingly, why shouldn't they be hoisted on the petard of their own hypocrisy?
As a result, your article is as irrelevant to the country as the fact of the youngster's pregnancy.
Your point is well taken. Fewer people would have cared that Bristol was pregnant than cared about whether Alaska had a female governor. Ironically the point is not her pregnancy and she will have the most lasting effects of her decisions. The point is that her mother now a very public figure had stated that most of the money dedicated to birth control should be devoted to counseling for abstinence prior to marriage. Perhaps if Governor Palin really believed that statement her own child would not be pregnant. ...or was she waiting for the federal government to do that job for her. As the incumbent Governors unmarried daughter how stupid do you have to be to get pregnant in the first place. Whether its a failure of moral teaching (so beloved by the Republican religious right) or a failure of intellectual mentoring in the home Palin provides a pretty pathetic example of the moral superiority Republicans wish they had.
McCain was in such a hurry to proclaim Clinton supporters too ignorant to be anything but gender voters he failed to find out who his nominee was. Oh well, another election cycle dominated by having to vote for the least distasteful of the two major party candidates. Perhaps when the situation becomes dire enough a statesman will emerge from among the myriad politicians.
